TRASH TO TREASURE

Nike’s Space Hippie sneakers were inspired by the idea that if people lived on mars, our materials would be limited. But the idea that trash could be our most valuable resource didn’t resonate with most sneakerheads.

Transforming their trash to treasure, Nike Space Hippie will create a limited-edition “Space Waste” line and send them to space, to make the sneakers the most coveted trash on earth (and space, for that matter).

Nike Space Hippie’s aren’t just joining in on the move towards recycled materials, they’re pioneering it.

Nike x NASA

Nike Space Hippie will be the first official shoe of NASA astronauts, and on October 31, the NASA SpaceX Crew-3 mission will take off to the ISS. Along with the shoes on the astronaut’s feet, 1000 pairs of Space Hippies will blast off into space.

Rocket Touchdown & SNKRS Launch

Nike will host a livestream of the mission’s takeoff and landing. The moment Crew-3 returns on earth, the sneakers that went to space will be available on the SNKRS app, and the drawing will begin.

Space Waste Delivery

Sixty-six seconds after takeoff, six rocket strap on boosters fall into the ocean. Three boosters are typically discarded, but Nike will use NASA’s trash and turn it to treasure that is one-of-a-kind Space Waste packaging.

Drawing winners will get their sneakers delivered by Nike’s Space Waste delivery truck.
